Odongo's Story
Odongo's family came to Namuwongo after fleeing civil war in northern Uganda.
He lost his sight as a young child due to illness and lack of medical care. As a single parent with six children, Odongo's mother was unable to afford fees for a school for children with disabilities.
Thanks to St. John the Baptist School (UK) and many generous sponsors, Odongo has attended a special needs school in Kampala since fall 2009. The school encourages their students to interact with others, despite their differences, and teaches skills that allow them to face the many challenges in their lives. Students also learn tolerance, in a society with much discrimination against those with disabilities.
