Lake Victoria Absailing Equator

Life in Kampala

Volunteers will enjoy a cross-cultural experience in Kampala, the capital city of Uganda. We provide safe and comfortable accommodation and you will have the chance to visit various destinations in East Africa on holiday excursions.

During working hours, volunteers will talk with people living in this difficult environment and work with our local staff including nursery school teachers, social workers and financial officers. In your free time, you can spend time with volunteers exploring the Pearl of Africa, one of most beautiful countries in the world. Uganda offers safaris, museums, cultural shows and much more. Take a picture standing on the equator, spend a weekend at a beach resort on Lake Victoria, and visit neighbouring countries like Kenya, Tanzania or Rwanda.

Accommodation

Although accommodation in Kampala is not as cheap as in some other developing countries, Uganda Hands for Hope provides a safe and comfortable guesthouse where you can meet other volunteers from all over the world. Set up specifically for volunteers, the guesthouse is located just off Namuwongo Rd and is only a 5 minute walk from the office. The house is fully furnished - each of the three bedrooms include bunk beds, mosquito nets and storage space - with a shared bathroom.

The kitchen includes a refrigerator/freezer, sink, toaster, gas burners and kitchenware. The living area has couches, a TV with a DVD player and a pool table. The guesthouse compound is fenced, gated and locked at all times with a guard after dark. The house cleaner is there on weekdays keeping the guesthouse tidy and changing the linen every week, and providing three Western or Ugandan meals per day.

Volunteers and interns are welcome to stay in the guesthouse for only US $22 per night, including 3 meals per day.
